| Jan. 28, 2010 VANCOUVER - Robson Square will be bustling with exciting, B.C.-focused, free entertainment every day and night during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Minister of State for the Olympics and ActNow BC Mary McNeil announced today. "The incredible line-up of performers and special attractions makes Robson Square the place to be for free, family entertainment during the Games," said McNeil. "Visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy from the mascot ice shows and street entertainers to the zipline and nightly pyrotechnics." Robson Square will feature live entertainment, sport demonstrations, and large video screens to watch all the action of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Adventurous visitors will also enjoy impressive views on the more than 170 metre (over 550 feet) urban zipline. The revitalization of the ice rink at GE Plaza has brought over 115,000 visitors to Robson Square to enjoy ice skating, concerts, and other special events. The ice rink opened Nov. 23, 2009, thanks to a partnership between the Province and GE. "The 2010 Winter Games are our golden opportunity to showcase the best of British Columbia to visiting families, investors and dignitaries from around the world," McNeil said. "As a landmark in the heart of downtown Vancouver, Robson Square is the ultimate venue to welcome everyone." Robson Square is the Province's signature celebration site during the 2010 Winter Games and home to the ice rink at GE Plaza, the BC International Media Centre, and the BC Canada Pavilion at the Vancouver Art Gallery. -30- | |
